Five executive posts remain unfilled
Michael Duignan has been elected the new chairperson of Offaly GAA and says he hopes to now energise volunteers across the Faithful County and create a strategic plan.
The former All-Ireland winner and dual player with the Faithful defeated outgoing chair Tommy Byrne by 76 votes to 62 at last night's convention at O'Connor Park.
After the vote, Mr Byrne urged delegates to get behind the new chairman and executive while revealing he'll now take a break from GAA administration.
Mary Dunne stepped down as PRO with assistant treasurer Brian Flynn and cultural officer John Moloney also leaving their posts as five positions on the County Board executive remain vacant heading into next month's meeting.
Rhode's James Murphy edged out Edenderry's Colm Cummins by two votes to be elected as vice-chairman while two other members of Duignan's group secured places on the new-look Offaly County Board.
Clara's Dervill Dolan became treasurer with his club-mate Brian Gavin joining Joe Higgins as Leinster Council representatives
After the meeting the new chairman spoke to Will O'Callaghan:
