Last year's beaten finalists Clonkill got off to a losing start as they were beaten by Lough Lene Gaels on Saturday 1-16 to 0-15. Later that evening Division 1 League winners Castlepollard pulled off a shock win over Raharney on a scoreline of 2-15 to 1-15 in TEG Cusack Park with Allan Devine hitting 2-4 in a Man of the Match display.
In the Senior B championship St Oliver Plunkett's H.C. edged out Crookedwood 0-18 to 0-16 while Brownstown got off to a winning start with a 1-13 to 0-12 victory over Delvin in Joristown Park on Friday. Meanwhile Ringtown were convincing 1-15 to 0-11 winners over Clonkill.
In the Intermediate Championship Castletown Geoghegan were four points victors over Clonkill, Turin were a goal better than Raharney and Southern Gaels were 1-11 to 1-09 winners over St Brigid's.
