HIQA issued a formal letter to The Residence in Portlaoise.
The owners of a Laois nursing home at the centre of controversy over malpractice has paused admissions on all 25 of the facilities they run in Ireland.
A new report by HIQA details how it had to place restrictions on the operations of seven of the 25 homes ran by Emeis Ireland as they failed to comply with regulations.
The healthcare watchdog had to issue a formal letter warning of prosecution to The Residence in Portlaoise after they received evidence the owners were still taking new admissions after being ordered to stop.
The facility had a 75% failure rate in regulation compliance around individual assessment and care plans, as well as governance and management.
Issues at Beneavin Manor in Dublin were identified as early as 2021, with the home acknowledging they were admitting residents whose needs they could not meet.
This new report tells us that HIQA warned Emeis they would close another of their facilities in Dublin.
The Residence Carton in Raheny has what is being described as a history of poor compliance with the regulations, specifically regarding Governance and Management and Infection Prevention and Control".
Maynooth Lodge Nursing Home in Co Kildare has had an inconsistent history of regulatory compliance, Brookvale Manor Private Nursing Home in Ballyhaunis was cited for operating well over capacity, and the Residence Citywest, in Fortunestown in Dublin was not complying with key regulations which underpin the care of residents.
All of this has fallen into the spotlight after a tv exposé broadcast on the 4th of June, uncovered multiple examples of care failings and neglect of vulnerable older residents at both the Residence in Portlaoise and Beneavin Manor in Dublin.
